17 Eye-Catching Items

Here are 17 items that caught my eye at the Country Living
Fair Atlanta. Some because of how unique they were,
or cute, or pretty, or interesting, or maybe even DIY-able.

Here they are in no particular order or rhyme or reason.

1. Edison bulb suspended from vintage pulley

2. Vintage cans with cutouts
These were especially cute with Christmas tree lights inside to highlight the images.

3. Really old birdhouse...so detailed!

4. Really big pigeon coop (six feet tall?)

5. Artful metal whirly-gigs

6. Reproduction Old World Santas

7. Mid-century light up Santas

I began noticing these after seeing this Christmas display in Lombard, Illinois

8. Pinecones wired into pinecone shape

9. Scented floating candles and cranberries in old
tub (smelled divine too)
Check out this Pinterest page for ideas how to do this on a smaller version

10. Concrete Leaf Castings

I would not attempt this myself but here is a tutorial if you would like to try to make leaf castings.

11. Folding rulers in star shapes
Kim at Starshine Chic blog says that you just fold the ruler into the star shape and it stays by itself

Unless you can find these rulers at a yard sale, they are not cheap.
Pretty Handy Girl has a tutorial for making a similar look with 3 regular yardsticks

There were plenty of other wooden star shapes at the fair.
Candace at Vintage News Junkie has a tutorial for making stars out of tobacco sticks.
Becky at Beyond the Picket Fence has a tutorial for making stars out of old fence pickets.

12. Display case made from an old window
Diane at Pittypat Paperie has a tutorial on making something like this but on a
little larger scale. If you are like me and don't have the skills for using old windows,

13. Large neutral colored bottle brush trees
It is hard to find bottle brush trees this large in craft stores.
You can find smaller green bottle brush trees at Christmas time in the craft stores.
Some can be bleached...here is tutorial about bleaching.

If you like your bottle brush trees with more color, you can dye them.

14. Wild and crazy twig wreath
If you don't have access to pliable vines like grapevine and willow to make a wreath, here is a
tutorial for making a twig wreath (as tame or as crazy as you want). Christy used a wooden
circle for a base but if you can't find that, I think a wire wreath frame would work also

15. Simple book page trees
Wouldn't these be cute in vignettes...even different sizes?
Couldn't find a tutorial but they look like they would be easy to do.

16. Girl Camping RV site
"Sisters on the Fly" are a group of women who go on RV adventures together.
Here are some of their homes away from home...

This 2007 twenty foot RV was purchased from a guy who had used it for hunting.

It was totally renovated and is now like a tiny home.

Here are some of the other ladies' RVs at the site...

17. Beautiful setting for the fair
The setting for the Atlanta fair was on the Stone Mountain park grounds.
The pathways ( that the white vendor tents lined) wove through
stands of towering pine trees. No date has been set for the Atlanta
fair for 2018 yet. I'm sure the organizers are still catching their breath.

It is fun to look even if you don't need to buy anything. The workshops
were taught by very qualified folks. There were lots of restrooms!
The next Country Living Fair is in Nashville, April 20-22.
Another one is in Rhinebeck, New York, June 1-3.
They are planning to have one in Columbus, Ohio next September
but no specific dates have been announced.
